Housing disrepair claims on the rise

Check our FAQ's and if you think you might have a claim fill out our simple form and we will get back to you

  • How is it possible to claim from local authority housing?

As a tenant of any house you have certain rights. One of those is that your landlord has an obligation to keep your home safe and in a reasonable state of repair. They also have a duty to make sure that any defects you report to then are repaired in a timely manner. If they do not do that you have a right to make a claim to ensure your landlord makes the necessary repairs and potentially receive compensation!

  • I’m not sure if I have a claim?

If you have any problems with your local council house or a housing association property such as any damage internally or externally, then it is very likely you have a claim. Contact us and let us see if we can help you.

  • Just how much could I receive?

Our primary objective is to get your home fixed to your lawyer’s standard, not to the property manager’s requirement. Everybody has a legal right to live in a well-maintained property.

A property manager will offer compensation depending upon the seriousness of the disrepair and the length of time, compensation differs on a case to case basis. You can also declare for any personal products you have actually needed to change due to the disrepair.

  • Can you help me make a claim after I’ve moved out of the property?

We help people currently living within their properties to access justice and ask the court to ensure repairs are made

  • How long will it take?

Every case is different and whilst some are resolved in as little as 3-4 months, some can take significantly longer to resolve. There is a timeline outlined by the Ministry of Justice, to which all parties work which details the processes involved and the ideal timescales involved.

  • What do I need to do?

You need to give notice of any housing disrepair to the landlord in writing or through a telephone call, specifying the date and your issue.

Keep a copy of all letters sent and received and log all calls made. You can also take photographs highlighting the problem. Should the landlord take action to complete the repairs within a reasonable period of time, they have met their obligations and no further action is needed.

If the landlord neglects their duties you can fill in our sign up to find out more or send us a message form to find out if you are eligible to get repairs you require and the compensation you deserve.
